I think the animation would look stronger with different shapes. But I also think that the way you made the shapes spin at the end of animation was really interesting. If I were you I would make it so all the shapes that spin at the end spin altogether. You did a very good job at making the negative shape look positive.
The original shape is very interesting and the way the triangles sort if twisted and turned out worked well. The way the one triangle gets lost in the middle and frantically runs around trying to find his place makes me laugh, and it feels like a story is being told. :D I think inverting the colors was a good choice. I would suggest adding a prequel animation to this one, because I want to know what
